Position Overview:
The Project Manager will oversee exploration and resource estimation activities at the potash mine in Africa, ensuring that all work aligns with corporate goals and the Chinese reserve standards. This individual will act as the primary liaison between our company's interests and the existing mining company's CEO, while working closely with selected contractors, geologists, and engineers. A strong, self-driven professional, the Project Manager will be expected to anticipate and resolve issues efficiently to keep the project on track.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Act as the primary point of contact between the company and all stake holders, including the top management of the mining company, geologists, drilling contractors and engineering contractors, ensuring smooth communication, cooperation, and alignment on project deliverables and timelines.
2. Oversee the negotiation, preparation, and execution of contracts and agreements with contractors, ensuring compliance with the project’s terms, company policies, and local regulations.
3. Work closely with geological teams to prepare compliant documentation to prove reserves, positioning the project for future sale.
4. Oversee drilling and sampling activities, maintaining high standards for safety and operational efficiency.
5. Monitor and report on project expenditures related to contractor activities, tracking costs, budgets, and financial forecasts to ensure cost-effective operations.
6. Identify potential project risks and proactively work to develop and implement mitigation strategies with the project team.
7. Prepare regular project status updates, including key milestones, budget assessments, performance reviews, and any deviations from the original project plan. Document all project activities for regulatory reporting, stakeholder review, and future transaction readiness.
8. Conduct site visits as needed to monitor progress, troubleshoot issues, ensure that all project operations are in line with regulatory standards, and maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and future reference.
9. Foster effective communication within a multicultural environment to promote
collaboration and resolve any potential issues.
Requirements:
Experience:
1. At least 5 years of relevant experience in overseas business execution experience. With relevant work experience on project management, mining exploration and resource development, or commercial roles within the mining, construction, or similar industries is preferable.
2. Previous experience working in African countries or in a cross-cultural environment is advantageous.
Education:
3. Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Project Management, or other related majors in Business Management, Financing, Language, and Culture are also acceptable. A master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
Skills:
4. Proficiency in both English and French is preferred to facilitate seamless communication with local and international partners. Ability to convey complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
5. Strong project management skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
6. Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Office Suite.
