About The Role

This position will be based in Qingdao office and will be reporting to Group Product Development Manager. This role is responsible for providing leadership and management to the Mechanical Engineering Team while ensuring optimum level of service & satisfaction to customers through their innovative approach to researching and designing food packaging and processing machinery / systems.

Key responsibilities

- Manage the activities of the Mechanical Engineering Sub-Team
- Coordinate the work schedules of team members including resource planning and delegating tasks
- Ensure that the product developments and product standardization are managed and maintained by the team.
- Encourage personal development ensuring results are achieved, including higher quality of output for customers
- Make decisions within company philosophies and guidelines, and communicate them clearly and in a timely manner
- Ensure team members are actively contributing to the global team throughout the life cycle of products, ensuring optimum levels of service and support are achieved
- Provide support and guidance to the greater team in the absence of the Group R&D Manager
- Design and develop machinery to meet performance, operational and cost specifications.
- Development includes assembly, commissioning, testing & ongoing refinement.
- Liaise with and establish excellent relationships with customers, colleagues, suppliers and internal departments
- Continually identify, implement, monitor and update processes & practices to ensure a high standard of consistency with design philosophies
- Generate designs and drawings that are of optimum quality. Consider all upstream and downstream effects on the business, internal customers and end users
- Manage design projects ensuring all milestones are met, as per the schedule
- Prepare and coordinate accurate resource, time and cost summaries for projects on a weekly, monthly and ad-hoc basis as required
- Assist with and provide high level support to the customer and the team.
- Work closely with all departments, ensuring you are a key team member in transitioning new designs through documentation, prototyping, timely production and testing
- Update personal technical and industry knowledge, as necessary
- Travel to both customer and tna sites to support and develop equipment and solutions

Qualification and Experience

- Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer (or similar engineering discipline)
- Minimum of 8 years design experience with some autonomy, in special purpose machine design or manufacturing related field
- Staff Management
- Experience with 3D drawings & modelling systems, Inventor preferred
- Exposure to the food and packaging industry is desirable but not mandatory
