A. JOB SUMMARY
China Outreach Manager is responsible for contributing to outreach program of the seafood industry in China. The key objective is to promote MSC concept, certification and eco- labelling program among a great number of stakeholders along seafood supply-chain.
Reporting to Senior Commercial Outreach Manager, the manager is responsible for outreach to the fisheries sector, Seafood Associations, regional government, fishery research institutes, NGOs and fishery and processing companies in China and in addition, supporting the team to engage Chinese key retailers to improve understanding of MSC and commit to selling MSC certified and labelled products as sourcing strategy.
The first step of work will start from research and analysis: understanding target companies and commercial linkage/mapping within those fisheries (imports) and destination market, relationship building, and essentially selling the MSC concept and use of the ecolabel to potential clients.
Based on the analysis, a practically strategic plan on supply-chain management (CoCs) will be designed for coming 3 years, with an objective to strengthen the market link between supply and demand for both domestic and international market. In addition, the plan will highlight how to support improving standard integrity in China.
The analysis will support to the development of China inshore fishery program in the relation with policy engagement and the implementation together with local partners, but only at demonstrative level.
The manager will be part of the MSC’s Asia Pacific regional team and will participate in the collective strategic planning and development of the organization in the region.
B. KEY TASKS
1. Analysis of the status of existing MSC COC companies, business operations, supply chain and market strategy to labelled products and possibility to support MSC towards sustainability.
2. Create the connections with MSC CoC companies in China includes meeting arrangement, company visits and summary of output.
3. Strengthen the communication MSC CoC stands limited to commercial prospective.
4. Map out potential companies for MSC CoC certification and develop a strategy to approach those companies towards MSC.
5. Organize major outreach events, e.g. MSC commercial event in and encourage high level of participation from Fishery industry for those events.
6. Support in the engagement with key retailers, including strategy development, meetings and document preparation.
7. Support the outreach to different key stakeholders including governments, association, research institutes, NGOs and other related agencies in China.
8. Support fishery sector inquiries through document preparations and market investigation.
9. Provide oral and written advice through briefings, submissions and reports to MSC staff as needed.
10. Provide monthly and quarterly reporting against agreed work plans, and additional reporting as may be required.
11. Support and develop CAB capability for Fishery Pre-Assessment and Certification in China.
12. Any other duty as directed by the Line Manager.
C. DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE
The manager will work with fisheries, commercial and communications professionals in both the China offices and the Asia Pacific Headquarters.
D. REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES
? A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as marketing, business administration or economics.
? Extensive knowledge of the China retail and foodservice market, and global supply chains, with a strong preference for seafood experience.
? 3 or more years of relevant experience in sales and account management, especially in relation to the retail and foodservice sector,
? Experience in development and implementation of promotion and merchandising.
? Excellent computer and IT skills, including the use of standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
? Knowledge of third party certification schemes and the role of eco-labelling an advantage.
? Ability to analyze information and report concisely.
